Application Turned In

After much procrastination I finally put my application in at the City’s Police Department. I figured three years at the prison has been enough so it was time to move on. After all that is the only reason I began working at the prison right? When I started working for the Dept of Corrections it was with the full intention of “moving on” to street cop, and today I took the first step towards moving on.

When I began my career in law enforcement the prison was only going to be a stepping stone use to compensate for my lack of further education. The only problem is over the past three years I have moved up the ranks rather quickly, and I feel felt obligated to stay, it’s almost as if I owed those who gave me a chance to shine. Only now am I realizing that it has nothing to do with “them”, it’s about me. I see a lot of co-workers who came into this job with the intention of “moving on” but for one reason or another chose not to follow there dreams. I will not be one of them.

  1. What made you decide you wanted to become a police officer in the first place, Robert? And what size town do you want to work in?
